UCSA Service Year for Christ was established in 1992 in the Eastern Cape. Anna-Marié Franken was the first national co-ordinator. Her vision was twofold: firstly, to broaden the horizons of young South Africans who had grown up under apartheid, and secondly to equip them to reach their generation with the gospel.

Anne-Marie had passionately led the program until 2006, when she left the USCA team to start Global Challenge Expeditions. There was decided not to appoint a new national coordinator, but that each province would co-ordinate there individual areas.

In 2009 the State Council decided to establish a National Coordinator to be appointed in 2010, this is when Carla Swanepoel joined UCSA to carry this flag.

At the end of 2016 Carla handed the flag over to Dorian Adams. Dorian has been part of the Service Year family for years. He has a immense heart to see young men and women be transformed by God!
